We are the Martin family of San Jose, California. David and I have always shared our lives with dogs ... some we have chosen, and others have chosen us ... but we have always felt that animals were an important part of family life.
We discovered the Flat-Coated Retriever by way of a wonderful wannabe that adopted David over 25 years ago. His name was Joe and he was the perfect dog for us ... Eager to please, loyal, happy go lucky and completely devoted. We had always wondered how we would ever replace our Joe and even joked that we should clone him, like Dolly, the sheep. In 1997, while watching Westminster I saw a long-haired black dog on the screen and called David to see Joe on TV. The rest is history …
