Tuesday we took the pups in for their first eye exams. They were very well behaved and did not dirty their crate. As you can see, all measures are taken to ensure that the pups do not come into contact with any germs at the vet's office. They go from the crate to the exam table and back again, never touching the floor. We got there 30 minutes early so we could dilate their eyes prior to the exam. Dr. Smith checked them all for any hereditary conditons such as cataracts, etc. as well as any congenital issues. We feel strongly that in order to sell you the healthiest puppy we possibly can, we must know if a problem exists early with each and every dog we produce. This is also vital information to our breeding program going forward so we like to have a baseline of all puppies at 7.5 - 8 weeks of age.
While we do breed for our own kennel and to our particular tastes, we strive to stay true to the breed standard and know that our number one responsibility is to breed healthy dogs for our new owners. It all starts with visits like this one. Happy to report that Saudades' F Litter is ALL CLEAR! Official reports to follow from the OFA.
