A tribute to Guinness

Guinness (2005 – 2020)
CH Saudades’ First Draft
our first Bred-By Exhibitor Champion,
forever in our hearts

It is with great sadness that we announce that Guinness, our beloved and devoted Flat-Coated Retriever, declined in health the last few weeks as his immune system was weakened.  He passed away Tuesday, June 3rd
He will be sorely missed.

A wonderful companion, Guinness was extremely affectionate, energetic and loyal.  In his youth, he would greet us at the door by jumping up and planting his front paws on our chest.  Seldom alone, he would often greet us with a lick. If we sat down, he would curl up at our feet.  He loved the outdoors, and enthusiastically went for walks, often jumping in the air at the sight of us readying his leash.

Guinness was fond of carrying things in his mouth, so much so, that when visitors arrived, he would pick up a shoe and parade to the front door and proudly show off his new trophy.  Guinness displayed an almost constant wagging tail.  He loved companionship and he had a sweet disposition.

He lived up to the FCR reputation of being the canine Peter Pan and never growing up. While we will miss Guinness dearly, we will never forget the more than 15 wonderful years Guinness shared in our lives.

A special thank you to Keli Martin for introducing us to the Flat-Coated Retriever, for the opportunity to own such a wonderful dog, and for her regular correspondence and thoughtful gifts for Guinness throughout his lifetime.

Thanks to the many friends who have sent their condolences.  Your kind words have helped us through this difficult time.

The Halliwells (Geoff, Toni, Derek & Nick)
